Preview: Jackson Pollock at Ease – Tony Vacarro Photographs, Pollock House, Long Island

In Art Museum, Black and White Photography, Exhibits on July 25, 2010 at 10:44 am

On assignment for Look magazine in the early ‘50’s, photographer Tony Vacarro took some intimate “at home” photos of Jackson Pollock and his wife Lee Krasner that have never been published.

He photographed the two artists in the house and the barn studio, where the couple chatted with neighbors and Pollock discussed his paintings in progress. The Look article was never published, and color film from the photo shoot that was turned over to the magazine’s editor has been lost. Fortunately Vaccaro kept the black and white film, from which the prints in this exhibition are taken. Few of them have been published, and many have never before been printed. They complement the small selection on view in the permanent exhibition inside the Pollock-Krasner studio.

For a unique personal view of this art giant visit July 29 – October 30.
